Let Kids Grow Gracefully

How to helps kids Grow Gracefully? Parenting & Teaching is an experience that provides opportunities to discover the child and shape their future. Parents play a major role in promoting physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual well being of a child.

It is important to set the six ‘Universal Truths’ to Teach your children to avoid the embarrassing consequences as they struggle their way to face the challenges.

> Teach the child to Believe in God & Believe in the things he can do.
> Create a better Bond with children. Show acceptance, participate in child’s life, demonstrate love, appreciate them & above all, make them feel that you are a proud happy parent/teacher
> Insist on positive language; criticize action and not the child. Avoid sarcasm
> Let the child understand the values in life. Set limits; fulfill commitments to the extent of status levels so as not to let him fly high
> Let the child develop sense of knowledge, feel capable and disciplined.
> Teach the power of self-esteem to contribute to a child’s happiness and emotional well being.

Father's Day - 21st June

Happy Father's Day to all Dads Online! Here's a small poem from Kidsfreesouls pages!

What Makes A Dad?

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so,

He called it ... Dad

Setting parenting controls

It is learnt 50% of New Zealand parents set parental controls of their children’s’ surfing. That compares to a global average of 33% and rating higher than those in Australia (34%), the US (32%), Italy (30%), China (27%), Sweden (22%) and Japan (18%). Only UK (54%) and Canadian parents (52%) set more controls on their family computers. (source In Google News)

Almost every child who is on computers or online is apt to seek out content that is not monitored by parents. Normally, children do not want poking by parents on their activities especially when it comes to playing games on computers or ending up to social networking, making friends and interacting.

Setting up parenting control is not the only solution. Parents and Teachers need to provide 'Safe Internet Lessons' and highlight kids on web lanes and on unsafe landings. Before kids begin their web journey, it is not necessary to keep a watchful eye all the time and check on the History or set controls. It is more to teach on 'How to' and set their time schedules too. Also, important is the Computer area - closed doors and friends is always snoopy and sneaky fun. Let them feel free to talk to you and encourage open exchange of views. There are similarities and differences on how we grew up and how are kids are growing up and experiencing life.

What is required is 'Safety' - Internet isn't a bad place but a there are a few places on it. Much like a community, we need to scratch off the few from our lives and help our kids to keep away from the bad and the worst. I was just listening to the part of the series of Palm Breeze Cafe, Lee Keller and Kim Cavanaugh talk about protecting your children and students in the online community. About understanding the Internet and setting the controls and all on looking at both sides of the cyber-bullying that is sweeping across the country. From victims to perpetrators, Lee and Kim look at what parents and teachers can do. Parents and teachers need to understand the 21st century communication and of course, understanding the Internet ideology and technology to use as a part of social life. Check this on Kidsfreesouls You Tube here and more on Social networking and kids which might interest you and keep kids safe on the web. Also here's on chat and email etiquettes and on Blogging.

Btw, Aesop was born on 4th June, a fantastic story-teller who lived in Greece. Aesop was a slave who lived mid-sixth century BC, in Ancient Greece.

The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse and The Dog in the Manger has been the favorite reads of the children at the Swagat Library. You can find many more on the web on Kidsfreesouls fairyland Page - the tales are exclusive widgets by Laura Gibbs. Here's Aesop in the Wiki and the Pacific Link is widely surfed for the Aesops. You can listen to the audios here on this link too.

Btw, ever thought of the moral values you find the fairy tales? It is more important to teach the kids to write the reviews once they finish reading a story or ask them to narrate the same. It often happens, children read but cannot understand or sometimes, they pretend to read but remain in a dreamy mood as they often admit they have not read the story! Here is a brief on what moral each story has.

Also find the June Calendar and Projects - It's Back to School again and busy getting ready to set the goals. Enjoy.
