Earth Hour aims to reach over 1000 cities and a billion people round the world in the world in 2009. Make Earth Hour happen. Turn off your lights for an hour, record your vote and spread the message.
In India, WWF-India is one of country’s largest non-governmental organization working towards the conservation of biodiversity and natural habitats. The organisation works through a network of 60 state, field and divisional offices with approximately 300 staff working across the country to implement its mission and work. The secretariat is based in New Delhi and the organization is a part of the WWF International network, with its headquarters located in Gland, Switzerland.
This year 2009, India joins Earth Hour for the first time. New Delhi and Mumbai are among 825 cities across 80 countries and territories that have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009. This number is growing everyday. Noted film actor Aamir Khan is leading the campaign in India. Many companies such as HP, HSBC and Wipro are also supporting the campaign. WWF is urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.
You can take a Photo, upload a video, blog or Twitter. List your ideas on how you will spread the word and join the movement. Switch of the lights, light a candle, organise seminars/group talks or even get children to make Projects on Earth Hour by lighting candles and helping them understand climate and global warming. Watch and share this You Tube video with children and explain them on global warming and the impacts of climate change.
